To Last Forever.
Or to Keep Creating?

Is making something that lasts forever the same as continuing to create? Beginning with one song, EVER opens questions about time, travel, human relationships, culture and the freedom to choose what comes next. What changes when completion is no longer the end of the story?

The ancient Greek idea of kairos points to an opportune moment for action. Mr. Adventure's phrase, “releasing a moment,” suggests giving such an instant a form. DJshangtian approaches the same work through another line: “EVER FLOW, EVER GLOW.” Their words differ. That is precisely why their meeting inside one song matters.

“Right now, ‘releasing a moment’ feels like the right way to describe it.”

If eternity means remaining exactly the same, change appears to be its enemy. But must it be?

Heraclitus's river endures while its water changes. In another tradition, Buddhist impermanence and dependent arising also invite us to see existence through change and relationships. These are ÉDITON's interpretive lenses, not a statement of either artist's beliefs.

Their story began more than fifteen years ago with a notice DJshangtian found in a music shop. Later, they travelled abroad together and experienced a full-moon party. The landscape of that journey would become part of EVER.

A beat from Mr. Adventure brought the journey back to DJshangtian—like rain, waves and sunlight. He entrusted the original song to Mr. Adventure, who returned it through another perspective. A shared memory had found different forms.

What if endurance means not remaining unchanged, but making another beginning possible?

Planning carefully and surrendering to chance may seem like opposites. For these two travellers, each gives the other meaning.

Mr. Adventure plans routes, timing and even clothing because shared time matters to him. “If you're spending time with someone, a plan matters—even for dinner, right?” DJshangtian prefers “surrendering to the flow,” allowing encounters and detours to change his course.

In Bangkok, DJshangtian was searching for pu pad pong curry, recommended by Mr. Adventure. The first restaurant had closed; the second was reserved for wealthy white guests. A young brown-skinned server directed him to another place. Along the way he found a small café run by a person of Japanese descent, specializing in enzyme-based offerings. There he met a local young man sourcing vinyl. Their encounter led to a record shop he was about to visit as he wrote.

A detour in search of a meal becomes a human connection. Sociologist Mark Granovetter's theory of weak ties explores how people outside our inner circles bring new information and opportunities. Such value cannot always be calculated before a journey.

Value lies not only in a finished product's revenue, but in the choices it makes possible. The idea recalls real options in business strategy. More options, however, are not always better. Freedom also means deciding which future to pursue.

Across more than forty-five countries, Mr. Adventure has moved between clubs, gamelan lessons, religious spaces and the sounds of nature. His idea of “sampling culture” is not just observation. It is the act of experiencing a place firsthand.

For DJshangtian, respect is essential when encountering another culture. Living without unnecessary boundaries means meeting people as individuals, not as symbols of somewhere foreign.

An announcement on a flight leaving Japan. Halting conversations in a language neither person speaks natively. Suddenly, a song from home. Even when words fail, a shared affection can connect strangers. DJshangtian hopes to create something that bridges oceans and time.

The exchange worked both ways. DJshangtian expanded his horizons into dance music and club culture through Mr. Adventure. In turn, Mr. Adventure was influenced by his collaborator's care for Japanese-language editing, word choice and nuance. Their different disciplines also helped shape the thinking behind ÉDITON.

For cultural exchange to last, admiration is not enough. People need recognition, shared opportunities and relationships worth returning to. These are the conditions that keep encounters from becoming one-time consumption.

“The music we love becomes a language we share. That is the kind of music I hope to make.”

Schumpeter's “new combinations” asks how new value can arise from existing resources and knowledge. EVER has taken different forms through new perspectives and collaborators. The question is not how many versions exist, but what each adds.

Mr. Adventure says, “More important than perfectionism is not repeating yourself—and not stopping.” To carry something forward is not necessarily to repeat it.

EVER was prepared for release in DJshangtian's car. Using his collaborator's computer and equipment, Mr. Adventure refined the track. What mattered was not the size of the studio, but the craft and trust the two had built.

Stars form from gas and dust. Some eventually return matter to space that helps form new stars and planets. This is astronomy, but the metaphor of an ending feeding another beginning resonates with EVER.

For Mr. Adventure, “Success means becoming free”: being able to communicate his intentions and create a path towards realizing them. Experience broadens his choices. Yet the more possibilities there are, the more carefully he must choose where to spend his time.

The Office Thonglorへの再訪やTHE SIXTH SENSEの流通構想もその先にある。

DJshangtian founded Iguana Bites with the aim of developing return visits and collaborations that recognize artists through credits and compensation. Plans also include The Office Thonglor and distribution for THE SIXTH SENSE. These were aspirations at the time of the interview, not completed outcomes.

“I want to sow the seeds of every possibility,” says Mr. Adventure. Yet seeds need time, conditions and other hands to become a forest. The ability to change, connect and pass value onward: those are the conditions for something new to grow.

Here the two voices meet. DJshangtian hopes music can become a common language across oceans. Mr. Adventure calls it freedom when his intentions reach another person. From different directions, perhaps they were searching for the same thing: a way to reach someone.

Six recordings have been displayed. But another continuation is here. Not a new track, nor a seventh official release. The story you are reading.

DJshangtian turned their journey into a song. Mr. Adventure returned that landscape in another sound. Along the way, they also exchanged a sensitivity to Japanese words and expression. What began in music has now found another form in ÉDITON.
